CALIFORNIA IN BRIEF : MARIPOSA : 2 Miners Injured in Explosion

A dynamite explosion in Mariposa seriously injured two gold miners and buried them under several feet of dirt, officials said. Rick Lilley, 33, of La Grange and James Flora, 32, of Mariposa were checking a dynamite charge that failed to explode inside the Colorado Gold Mine northeast of Mariposa when the blast occurred, state Department of Forestry officials said. Lilley suffered a broken leg and facial burns. Flora suffered a collapsed lung and eye, facial and neck injuries.
