A groundbreaking ceremony for the new headquarters of the South Coast Air Quality Management District in Diamond Bar will be held Nov. 30, AQMD officials announced.
Construction of the $46-million building will begin in early December, and last about 22 months, said James M. Lents, AQMD executive officer.
The 350,000 square-foot complex will be on the southwest corner of Copley Drive and Golden Springs Drive and will include a number of energy-saving features, including lobbies and laboratories with skylights, methanol-powered vehicles, and a pollution-free fuel cell to generate 5%-10% of the electricity for the building.
The building that houses the existing headquarters in El Monte will be used as a regional office, Lents said, and the Diamond Bar complex will employ about 1,000 people.
Ride-sharing will be strongly encouraged--employees will have to pay to park at the site--and those who ride bicycles to work will receive a bonus on their paycheck, he said.
The ceremony will begin at 1:30 p.m.
