Don Morton was fired as football coach at the University of Wisconsin, and said he would not accept another assignment at the school.
The school’s Athletic Board voted 10-0 with one abstention to fire Morton. UW Chancellor Donna Shalala, who accepted the board’s recommendation, said the school would exercise a reassignment clause in Morton’s contract.
Morton, at a news conference 30 minutes after informing his players that he had been fired, said, “I have not accepted anything.”
Morton has two years remaining on a contract that paid him a base salary of $113,280 and an estimated outside income of $100,000.
Morton compiled a 6-27 record in three years.
