Isaac Asimov’s article “A Stargazer’s Guide To the Universe” (Nov. 17) brings to mind the adage: “God can not change history.” “True, Mr. Jones. But historians can and do.”
Before the Greeks, the Chaledean astronomers compiled records for continuous astronomical observations for over 360 years, by far the longest uninterrupted astronomical observations of all time. And that include those of Greenwich, England.
Ptolemy, the great astronomer, in writing his world famous book, ‘Almagest’, relied on Chaledean astronomers because he could not trust the validity of the observations made by his compatriots, the Greeks.
