Oshman’s Sporting Goods Inc. The Houston-based company’s third-quarter profit fell 23% to $1.6 million. Sales were $68 million, down from $69.2 million last year. The third-quarter results reflect intensified competition in most major markets, although the company said aggressive promotions have retained market share. The sporting goods company opened two stores and closed two stores in the quarter, with four new stores scheduled to open in the fourth quarter for a nationwide total of 197.
