Airlines Boost Fares: Delta, United and Northwest airlines said they will match an excursion fare increase put into effect by Pan American World Airways last week. American Airlines previously said it will match the fare hike, which takes effect Dec. 16 and raises Maxsaver fares by $10 on round-trips of less than 1,000 miles, and $20 on trips more than 1,000 miles. Continental said it will match the fare boost in select markets, but that it is eliminating advance purchase requirements for Maxsaver fares from Dec. 20 to Jan. 5. USAir and United said they are also eliminating Maxsaver advance purchase rules for the holidays.
