A 17-year-old undocumented worker was shot and wounded Thursday by Border Crime Prevention officers near the San Ysidro port of entry, the San Diego Police Department reported.
Border Patrol agents Sgt. Joe Wood and Officer Cesar Castro fired several shots at the teen-ager after he ran toward the officers with a metal object that turned out to be a screwdriver, spokesman Bill Robinson said.
The youth, whom police declined to name because he is a minor, was shot several times in the lower body and was taken by Life Flight to UC San Diego Medical Center, Robinson said. The teen-ager was in stable condition Friday afternoon, a hospital spokeswoman said.
