Pirmin Zurbriggen of Switzerland, reviving his hopes of winning a fourth overall World Cup in his farewell season, won a super-giant slalom race with a time of 1 minute 37.39 seconds down a fast and treacherous course.
Defending World Cup champion Marc Girardelli fell at high speed and suffered a severe kidney bruise. He is expected to be out of action for at least 10 days.
Zurbriggen edged second-place finisher Lars-Borje Eriksson of Sweden by 11-hundredths of a second in winning his first super-G in more than a year. France’s Franck Piccard was third in 1:37.86. Bill Hudson was the best American finisher in 20th place.
