Suns Get Rambis From Hornets

PHOENIX — The Phoenix Suns acquired Kurt Rambis and two second-round draft picks from the Charlotte Hornets in exchange for Armon Gilliam in a trade Wednesday.
The Suns said they would receive the Hornets’ second-round draft selection in 1990 and either the Hornets’ or the Denver Nuggets’ second-round pick in 1991, at Charlotte’s option.
Rambis, 31, is coming off his most productive season in the NBA. He averaged 11.1 points and 9.4 rebounds in 75 games, finishing 12th in the league in rebounding. This season, Rambis is averaging 9.1 points and 7.5 rebounds.
Rambis had signed as a free agent with the Hornets in July, 1988, after playing seven seasons with the Lakers.
Gilliam, the Suns’ second choice overall in the 1987 draft after starring at Nevada Las Vegas, is averaging 8.9 points and 4.4 rebounds this season.
