Reserve fullback Kevin Gibbs of the Miami Hurricanes died when the car he was riding in slammed into a utility pole in Coral Gables, Fla., the school said.
The car was driven by Gibbs’ friend, Leroy Josey, who was hospitalized in stable condition.
Gibbs, 20, a redshirt freshman from Coral Gables High, carried the ball 28 times for 82 yards for the second-ranked Hurricanes.
