IRVINE : Letters of Interest to Be Taken for Trustee
- Share via
The Irvine Unified School District board decided this week to accept letters of interest from people wishing to replace former board member Gordon Getchel.
The board put off a decision on whether to hold an election or make an appointment to fill the vacancy, according to Jerry Rayl, assistant to the superintendent. The board has until Jan. 29 to fill the vacancy, otherwise the county superintendent of schools will call a special election, Rayl said.
The board will accept applications through 5 p.m. Jan. 8. Applicants need not have children in the schools but must live within the school district.
Getchel, a 10-year board member, resigned from the five-member board last month because he was moving to Sacramento. The new member will serve the remaining two years of his term.
