College Officials, Faculty Respond to Commentary
- Share via
We, the Academic Senate, recognize that part of our educational mission at Saddleback College is to provide an environment that promotes learning and open discussion. The weekly student newspaper, the Lariat, provides one forum for student learning, expression, and debate about local, national and international issues. Although we recognize that the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution affords the Lariat legal protection for such expression, we feel that the recent commentary, “Israel Enters the Nuclear Arms Race,” and its accompanying cartoon by a student journalist, went beyond the bounds of reasonable sensitivity. We regret that this situation has offended members of the community that we serve.
