GIRLS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Dana Hills Wins Championship of Tournament

Center Erin Schimeneck scored nine points and collected 14 rebounds, and forward Cheryl Christianson added six points to lead Dana Hills to a 34-26 victory over El Modena in the championship game of the Santa Ana Valley tournament Saturday.
Dana Hills is 7-2. Christianson was named the tournament’s most valuable player.
In the El Dorado tournament:
El Dorado 44, Long Beach Jordan 35--Teresa Korte scored 15 points to lead El Dorado, which outscored Long Beach Jordan, 10-4, in the second quarter on its way to the victory in the third-place game.
Anaheim Canyon 51, Downey 49--Kori Dalbey’s two free throws and a field goal in overtime gave Canyon the victory in the fifth-place game. Dalbey scored 13 points, and teammate Sherri Rhyne contributed 17.
Sunny Hills 55, Whittier Christian 43--Paige Matsuyoshi’s 17 points led Sunny Hills in the seventh-place game.
In the Valley Christian Tournament:
Woodbridge 56, Bellflower 39--Leslie Rathbun 12 points, eight steals and eight assists to lead Woodbridge (6-2). Tammy Williams had 10 and was named the tournament most valuable player for Woodbridge.
In a nonleague game:
Fountain Valley 35, Compton 28--Julie Workman had 14 points to lead Fountain Valley (4-2) at Edison High School. Jennifer Barbaro had 11 points and 14 rebounds.
