DALLAS — John Colborne scored 12 points, the only Southern Methodist player in double figures, to help the Mustangs outlast Texas Arlington, 36-31, in a college basketball game Saturday night.
The Mustangs (2-4) went 8:31 in the second half without scoring. SMU made four free throws in the last 1:10 for the win.
Texas Arlington (3-4) led, 23-21, at the half, but hit only four of 25 shots in the second half. Willie Brand led the Mavericks with 12 points, the only member of the Mavericks in double figures.
The 31 points scored by the Mavericks is the lowest total scored by Texas Arlington since it became a four-year institution in 1959.
