B-2 Bomber

It’s Kafkaesque.
At a time when the Berlin Wall is tumbling down, Defense Secretary Dick Cheney is pushing for a new budget-busting program of B-2 bombers (Part A, Dec. 14). Why do we need bombers now? Worse, all evidence, including that which the Air Force wishes to suppress, indicates that the B-2 is a flaw-ridden, gas-guzzling dud, and an expensive dud at that.
Didn’t this state give the world Ronald Reagan? What happened to rhetoric about free enterprise, individual initiative, federal hand-out junkies and orgies of self-interest? How can we explain this idiotic expenditure of money, except as a government bailout for the aerospace industry?
Putting everyone in the aerospace industry on welfare would be cheaper.
