A construction worker at a Santa Clarita power plant suffered serious head and neck injuries when he fell 25 feet into an empty boiler Saturday morning.
Gordon McBrayer, 34, was lifted out of the four-foot-wide hole in the boiler with a crane and then flown by helicopter to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, said Howard Spinrad, a Los Angeles County firefighter.
McBrayer fell about 6:30 a.m., shortly after the end of his shift at the AES Placerita co-generation power plant. He lay there for about 10 to 15 minutes until a co-worker noticed he was missing and heard his moans.
McBrayer was still conscious when rescuers pulled him out, Spinrad said. He was in serious condition Saturday night, a hospital spokeswoman said.
