A driver was crushed to death under his own car in Pomona after it swerved across traffic lanes, hit a curb and hurled him through the car’s sunroof, authorities said Friday.
The driver, whose name was being withheld until relatives are notified, was pronounced dead at 6:22 p.m. Thursday, about 15 minutes after the accident in the 900 block of East Holt Avenue, Pomona police said.
The man, who was not wearing a seat belt, had been driving east on Holt when he inexplicably swerved across westbound traffic lanes and struck the opposite curb, Pomona Sgt. Ralph Fry said.
“The force of the impact threw him out the open sunroof and into the parking lot,” Fry said. “The vehicle flipped end-over-end four times and came to rest on top of the victim.”
