WORLD IN BRIEF : LEBANON : Warning Shots Fail to Turn Away Ferry

A ferry carrying 66 passengers ignored warning shots from Maj. Gen. Michel Aoun’s gunners to reach a Lebanese port controlled by rival Christian militia forces, authorities said. The ferry Victory I, which arrived in Juniyah from Cyprus, is one of the few remaining links to the outside world for residents of the Christian enclave. The shelling came two days after Aoun, commander of the Lebanese army, declared the coastline off limits to international shipping.
