Dick Clark Gets ASCAP Honor: Dick Clark was awarded the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers’ American Classic Award on Wednesday at the organization’s 7th annual pop awards dinner at the Regent Beverly Wilshire. Clark was feted for his “contribution to bringing countless great songs and new talents to generations of music lovers.” Diane Warren, composer of Cher’s “If I Could Turn Back Time,” was named songwriter of the year. Paula Abdul’s “Straight Up” was honored as the year’s most performed song.
