A 21-year-old San Diego motorist was shot in the left arm Thursday shortly after he left Interstate 5, in what police said was a random shooting.
Eddie Newman had taken the Sassafrass Street exit about 11:30 a.m. and was stopped at a traffic light with his arm hanging out the window. Suddenly, he felt pain just above his left elbow. He had been shot, police spokesman Bill Robinson said.
Newman drove home, and relatives took him to Sharp Memorial Hospital, Robinson said. A hospital spokeswoman said Newman was in good condition and was scheduled to undergo surgery.
