Farmers in Trouble for Hurling Sheep at Police

PARIS — A French animal rights group said Wednesday it was taking legal action against farmers who hurled live sheep at police during a protest at the Eiffel Tower.
About 1,000 farmers from southern France drove 300 sheep through Paris on Tuesday to protest declining prices and a sharp rise in lamb imports from Britain and New Zealand. In clashes with riot police under the shadow of the tower, farmers used several animals as missiles.
No sheep deaths were reported, but the Animal Protection Society said in a statement: “Once again farmers have used violence against sheep.”
