1,300 Ethiopian Troops Slain, Rebels Report

NAIROBI, Kenya — Rebels fighting for an independent Eritrea said they killed 1,300 Ethiopian government troops last weekend when they repulsed an army attack on the front line east of the Eritrean provincial capital, Asmara.
The clandestine radio of the Eritrean People’s Liberation Front said Tuesday night that the clash occurred when Ethiopian troops attacked rebel positions on the Adi Rosso front, about 20 miles east of Asmara.
