A Thousand Oaks man who thought he spotted a green ball on his lawn Thursday morning instead discovered it was a military hand grenade and carried it into his house until police arrived, deputies said.

The department’s bomb specialist “removed it gingerly,” placing the grenade in a safety-lined barrel inside a bomb trailer, Montigo said.
