THE SIDELINES : No Love Lost for Canseco, Clark

SAN FRANCISCO — For Jose Canseco, Tuesday’s All-Star Game will provide more than a chance to play against baseball’s best. It will also give the Oakland Athletics’ outfielder an opportunity to heckle Will Clark of the San Francisco Giants.
“I heard what he said and I’m looking forward to taunting him,” Canseco said. “They gave you $4 million, you hear me, boy? I’m making a million more than you are, you big, overrated, three-toed sloth with no arms.”
Canseco, smiling and laughing all the way, was referring to Clark’s comments last week after hearing that Canseco had signed baseball’s most lucrative contract, a five-year, $23-million deal.
“Let that jerk over there have all the fun he wants,” Clark reportedly said.
Although they both play in the Bay Area and went against each other in the World Series last year, the players do not know each other personally. Canseco said he has never spoken to Clark and doesn’t expect that to change Tuesday night at Wrigley Field at Chicago. “It’s not on the top of my list for me and Will Clark to become friends,” Canseco said.
