2 Live Crew Problems, Cont.: The North Carolina Civil Liberties Union (NCCLU) has volunteered to defend a record store owner who was told to stop selling 2 Live Crew’s controversial rap album or face obscenity charges. Orange County, N.C., Dist. Atty. Carl Fox ruled Tuesday that the album, “As Nasty as They Wanna Be,” is obscene, and David Harvey, owner of Schoolkids Records, was told to remove it from his shelves. “I felt like I was in Nazi Germany when the police came in here,” said Harvey, who complied with the order. “The mere threat of prosecution is a heavy baseball bat by which (Fox) can ensure that the only materials available to adults are those that are suitable for children,” NCCLU director James Shields said.
