Lockheed Corp. established a new subsidiary, Lockheed Commercial Aircraft Center Inc., to maintain and modify Boeing 747 commercial jumbo jets beginning in mid-December.
The Calabasas-based aerospace and defense concern said the new unit will have headquarters in San Bernardino, and its president will be Gary Bowring, a 30-year veteran of the commercial aircraft maintenance industry.
Lockheed previously had announced plans for its commercial aircraft group to occupy two bays of a four-bay hangar at Norton Air Force Base near San Bernardino, and to occupy the whole hangar when the Air Force closes the base in 1994.
