SHORT TAKES : Moody Blues: It’s Nicer Outside
- Share via
The Moody Blues will perform mostly at outdoor venues during a three-month North American tour because the band members say their laid-back, symphonic tunes and lyrics are more suited to that sort of atmosphere.
Justin Hayward, the British group’s lead singer, said the outdoor sites allow families to attend the concert as a relaxed day trip and avoid what he described as the intimidating atmosphere of arena venues.
Hayward says the band’s music is not dated because it reflects the feelings of his audience and the band members. “If there is a message in our music at the moment it is to make the world a better place,” he said. “Moody Blues people are nice people. Maybe that is what has kept us there over the years.” The 40-concert tour starts Wednesday in Atlanta.
