Occidental Petroleum Corp.: The Los Angeles-based company said its quarterly profit rose 11% to $89 million, despite a $134-million earnings decline in its chemical division. That unit earned $172 million, compared to $306 million a year ago. Sales were unchanged at $5.1 billion. The 1990 second-quarter results included an after-tax gain of $41 million from selling some domestic oil and gas properties. The company attributed the earnings decline in its chemical division to lower sale prices throughout the industry.
