Durable Goods Orders Dip: Factory orders for “big ticket” items plummeted 3.2% in June, the Commerce Department said--a $4.14-billion fall to a seasonally adjusted $124.69 billion. The decline came as a surprise to analysts who had counted on a further rise in orders to signal that the fortunes of the nation’s manufacturing sector were on a permanent upswing. The report raised new concerns about a recession.
