West Covina : Anti-Graffiti Pact Renewed

The City Council on Monday renewed its contract with the El Monte Boys’ Club for graffiti removal for another year at a cost of $50,000.
The Boys’ Club, a nonprofit youth organization, has provided the service for seven years. Under the contract, a 10-member crew responds seven days a week to calls from police, homeowners and businesses to remove graffiti from walls, signs, poles, and curbs.
The city is charged $25 per site, up to a maximum of $6,000 a month, said Clayton Hollopeter, executive director of the Boys’ Club.
Because of the Boys’ Club’s efforts, West Covina remains virtually graffiti-free, said Mike Miller, an official in the city’s community services division.
Under its contract with West Covina, the club provides a three-member staff to counsel youths on probation. It also has graffiti-removal contracts with San Dimas, Claremont and Diamond Bar.
