WORLD IN BRIEF : PHILIPPINES : Rebels Kill Official, Fire on Relief Copter

Communist guerrillas shot and killed a vice mayor in the province of Ifugao and fired on, but missed, a helicopter ferrying relief supplies to a remote village that was devastated by an earthquake earlier this month, the military said. The Communist New People’s Army had said Saturday that it was calling a cease-fire and was joining relief missions.
