Early-Release Convict Guilty in Dual Murder

MIAMI — A man who was let out of prison under Florida’s early release program was convicted Wednesday of first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of two police officers in November, 1988.
Charles Street, 36, showed no emotion as the verdicts--including several convictions for armed robbery and possession of a firearm--were read. Survivors of Metro-Dade officers Richard Boles and David Strzalkowski were in the courtroom.
The Dade County jury rejected the defense’s argument that Street had been incapable of planning the shootings because he was high on cocaine at the time. He could be sentenced to life in prison without parole for at least 25 years or death in the electric chair.
