The Mike Tyson-Alex Stewart heavyweight fight that promoter Don King announced for Sept. 22 at the Trump Plaza in Atlantic City, N.J., is the final one of an eight-bout, $26.5-million deal that Tyson had with HBO.
With that in mind, Seth Abraham, HBO’s sports boss, and King are talking about another multi-fight agreement for the former heavyweight champion. If all goes according to plan, it would start with Tyson fighting for the title once more against the winner of the Buster Douglas-Evander Holyfield championship bout.
King said he had assurances from all three sanctioning organizations that because of “the error in Tokyo,” involving the alleged long count Douglas got, Tyson would be the mandatory challenger for the Douglas-Holyfield winner.
