Transamerica Corp.: The insurance concern reported second-quarter net income of $86.5 million, down 5% from the 1989 quarter, on revenue of $1.67 billion, down slightly. The San Francisco-based firm said the decline in net income reflects an anticipated lower level of capital gains in both periods. The company cited softness in some sectors of the domestic economy and continuing rate inadequacy in the property-casualty insurance industry.
