Compton : Special Meeting Called to Discuss Housing Proposal
- Share via
The City Council was supposed to take August off for vacation, but it has scheduled a special meeting next week to discuss a proposal to build low-cost housing on an old dump site.
The special meeting is set for 6:45 p.m. Monday, instead of Tuesday, the council’s regular meeting day.
Councilman Maxcy D. Filer is threatening not to show up. “There’s no need to say we’re not going to have any meetings and then call all these special meetings,” Filer complained early this week.
City Manager Howard Caldwell said the special meeting was called to deal with some holdover agenda items the council did not take up at its last meeting. Among the items is a proposal from the nonprofit South Central Organizing Committee to build low-cost, owner-occupied townhouses on the old Alondra Avenue dump site.
