Eric Mooney, a left-handed pitcher from St. Anthony High School in Long Beach, has been selected to the Goodwill Series VI American team that will play seven games against Japanese and Korean all-stars later this month in Japan.
The team, managed by former Pepperdine Coach Dave Gorrie, is chosen from college-bound freshman and high school players.
Mooney, who had a 6-5 record with 123 strikeouts and a 1.44 earned run average for St. Anthony last season, won a scholarship to St. Mary’s College in Moraga in Northern California.
He is playing this summer for Savalo Painters, a Long Beach Connie Mack team that is competing this week in the Connie Mack Pacific Regional Tournament in Tucson.
