NEW HAVEN, Conn. — The legs were the first to go.
Jimmy Connors was the second.
Connors, the all-time leader in singles championships with 106, pulled out of the Volvo International tournament next week, claiming to be out of shape.
The left-hander was known for his best-in-the-game return of service and for running down everything hit over the net, but age and inactivity have slowed him down.
The 37-year-old Connors, formerly No. 1 in the world, has not played competitively since February because of a wrist injury.
