Justice Department Reviews La Opinion Deal: The antitrust division has notified Times Mirror Co. that it has begun an investigation to determine the legality of the media company’s proposed purchase of a 50% stake in La Opinion, a Spanish-language newspaper in Los Angeles. Justice officials asked the Los Angeles-based media company, which owns the Los Angeles Times and other publications, to delay completion of the transaction and to preserve all documents and records relating to the deal.
