Cholera Strikes 7 Along Don River

MOSCOW — Seven people have fallen ill with cholera in the southern Soviet Union along the Don River, apparently from raw sewage that is flowing into the waterway, the Communist Party newspaper Pravda reported Wednesday.
The seven were stricken in Koluzaevo, near the city of Rostov, about 600 miles south of Moscow, the paper reported.
About 2.8 million cubic feet of raw sewage are pumped daily into the Temernik River, a tributary of the Don, causing bacterial levels to increase up to 100 times the advisable level.
