Minor Injuries Reported in Glendale Brush Fire

A 10-acre brush fire threatened hillside homes in Glendale Monday evening, stirring fearful memories of the devastating blaze in June. But the absence of strong wind allowed about 100 firefighters and two water-dropping helicopters to keep the fire from doing much damage.
One house was scorched, firefighters said, one firefighter injured an ankle and two homeowners were treated for heat exhaustion in the blaze, which broke out in a brushy area surrounded by $500,000 houses.
Cautious Glendale safety officials classified it as a three-alarm blaze and sought help from Burbank, Pasadena and Los Angeles, and homeowners turned on lawn sprinklers and hosed down their roofs. The fire was believed to have started in an electrical line or transformer. The June 27 fire, propelled by fierce winds, destroyed or damaged 66 houses.
