Clippers Make Deal With KCOP

In a move to increase visibility, the Clippers announced Monday they have agreed to a lucrative five-year contract with KCOP (Channel 13) to televise at least 34 games a season starting with the 1991-92 season.
The deal is worth more than $100,000 a game, a source close to negotiations said. Prime Ticket, which signed a 10-year contract with the Lakers in 1985, pays about $95,000 a game.
The Clippers are in the final season of a five-year deal with KTLA (Channel 5). KTLA will air 25 games this season, an increase of about five games.
Robert J. Steele, chief executive officer of the Sterling Corp., which owns the Clippers, said discussions to expand the number of televised games have been held. An NBA franchise can air up to 41 games on commercial television.
