Ex-Morningside Principal’s New Job

Art Murray, a former principal of Morningside High School who was fired in June by the Inglewood Unified School District, was hired this week by a school district near Bakersfield as an assistant superintendent, school officials said this week.
Murray was transferred in February from the Morningside High principalship to an administrator’s post in the Inglewood district office after scheduling problems and student protests interrupted the school year. District spokesman Maurice Wiley said Murray worked only one day in the new position and then took five months of sick leave. He said Murray was fired June 30.
Murray resigned as a high school principal in the Delano Joint Union School District in 1988 after the district reprimanded him for scuffling with the superintendent. The superintendent was later dismissed, Delano officials said. Last week Delano school board members rehired Murray by a 3-2 vote.
