Surfer Dies After Falling Off Board

HUNTINGTON BEACH — 6-year-old Garden Grove man who had been pulled from the surf unconscious and not breathing died Friday, authorities said.
Witnesses at Bolsa Chica State Beach said Dennis Stauffer was paddling to shore on his surfboard Thursday when he fell off, coroner’s investigators said.
When Stauffer did not come up for air, bystanders went into the surf and pulled him to shore. Lifeguards performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation and paramedics took him to Pacifica Community Hospital. He was pronounced dead there at 5:45 p.m. Friday, coroner’s investigators said.
