Post Office OKs Free Mail for Gulf Troops

WASHINGTON — U.S. troops serving in Operation Desert Shield will be permitted to mail letters home postage free, Postmaster General Anthony Frank announced Wednesday.
Frank, who made his announcement at a subcommittee hearing on postal operations, acted in response to legislation rapidly making its way through Congress that calls for free mailing privileges for the forces in and around Saudi Arabia.
