P.M. BRIEFING : Japan Vehicle Exports Slip 0.5%

TOKYO — Exports of Japanese vehicles fell 0.5% in August from a year earlier to 444,542 units, the first year-on-year drop in three months, automobile industry sources said today.
August exports were lower than the 489,804 vehicles sent abroad in July, when they rose 2.9% from a year earlier.
Japan’s vehicle production in August rose 8% from a year earlier to 961,900 units, the second successive month of year-on-year gains, the sources said.
August output was down from 1.21 million in July due to summer holidays. Output in July had gained 10.1% from a year earlier.
