Child Fatally Hurt When Struck by Car

LAGUNA NIGUEL — A 3 1/2-year-old boy died Thursday after he and his baby-sitter were hit by a car while crossing a street at an intersection, authorities said.
Thomas Burge of Laguna Niguel was pronounced dead at Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center in Mission Viejo about three hours after the 11:42 a.m. accident. Gladys Ventura, the boy’s baby-sitter, was listed in serious condition at the hospital.
Ventura, who is in her late 20s and also of Laguna Niguel, and the boy were crossing Crown Valley Parkway at Nueva Vista Drive when a Ford Escort struck them, Orange County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Jay Mendez said.
