A powerful homemade bomb exploded outside a Van Nuys liquor store late Sunday night, hurling shrapnel that shattered windows and damaged a parked car, Los Angeles police said today.
The bomb had been placed on top of a pay telephone outside Adam’s Liquor in a mini-mall at 14556 Vanowen St. and blew up about 11:30 p.m., Detective Don Tabak said.
The blast blew out most of the windows of the liquor store, a restaurant and a video store, Tabak said. The damaged car was parked in the mini-mall parking lot.
The stores were closed, and there were no injuries. A clerk at Adam’s Liquor said that the inside of the store escaped damage and that all the businesses in the mini-mall are open today.
Police had no motive or suspects in the bombing.
