Dallas’ Johnson Coach of Year; Shell Second

NEW YORK — Jimmy Johnson of the Dallas Cowboys was named NFL Coach of the Year Tuesday.
Johnson, 7-7 in his second year after a 1-15 record in 1989, got 18 1/2 votes in the Associated Press vote.
He won by 2 1/2 votes over Art Shell of the Raiders, who was named AFC Coach of the Year by United Press International.
