A 60-year-old Glendale man has been charged with making a bomb threat after he allegedly told a telephone operator that there was a bomb at Los Angeles City Hall.
The Los Angeles district attorney’s office filed charges against Tony Navarro on Tuesday, Los Angeles Police Detective Lawrence Garrett said. Navarro, who was arrested Friday, was released on bail from Los Angeles County Jail on Sunday and faces arraignment Feb. 14 in Los Angeles Municipal Court, Garrett said.
Police were notified of the threat by Pacific Bell, which traced the call to Navarro’s Sylvan Lane house, police said. Glendale officers, who were contacted by Los Angeles police, arrested Navarro after he told conflicting stories about the threat.
Garrett said police are giving bomb threats more attention because of the Persian Gulf War.
“There’s a higher threat of terrorist actions that might occur, so we’re looking a little harder at anything that might fall within a terrorist action,” he said.
