SOFIA, Bulgaria — Experts are to carry out a second test for doping on Soviet ice dancing champion Marina Klimova, whose first test reportedly was positive.
The Bulgarian Sport newspaper quoted unidentified sources as saying that Klimova, who won a gold medal with her partner, Sergei Ponomarenko, in the European Figure Skating Championships in Sofia last month, tested positive. The Soviets are two-time world champions in ice dancing.
Assen Pavlov, chairman of the organizing committee for the championships, said in an interview that Klimova’s sample would be retested at a laboratory in Cologne, Germany, accredited by the International Olympic Committee.
